OG 4028 Recall Procedures (Non-Emergency) for Core Operational Staff

Issued By: OPERATIONS
Date of Issue: 2000/09/28

PURPOSE:

To establish an efficient, consistent and fair recall of personnel for nonemergency scheduled overtime. This is not intended for use as a recall procedure during emergency incidents.

OBJECTIVE:

To ensure the fairness safety of personnel during nonemergency scheduled overtime.

SCOPE:

This operating guideline applies to Core Operational Staff of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency.

DISTRICT CHIEF PROCEDURES:

The recall of personnel shall be done by platoon and in such a manner as to avoid having personnel work in excess of 24 consecutive hours whenever possible.

The first platoon to be called should always be the alternate one. If additional personnel are required, once the alternate platoon list has been depleted, the sequence will depend upon the time of day. This is done in order to reduce the potential of personnel working in excess of 24 consecutive hours.

OG 4028 2

Personnel shall be called in the order that they appear on the list. The only exceptions are when looking for specific qualifications, such as drivers, officers, or special team members.

This call-out list will work on a system based on accumulated hours. All members who were contacted (or an attempt was made to contact them) will be credited with the hours received by members who accepted the overtime. This program will adjust the list and bring members with the least amount of opportunities to the top.
