PURPOSE: 

To establish and ensure proper procedure is followed when responding to Industrial Accidents.

OBJECTIVE:

Proper procedure will be followed when responding to industrial accident ensuring the safety of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency members. 

SCOPE:

This operating guideline applies to career and volunteer firefighters with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency.

PROCEDURE: 

In the event we are dispatched to an industrial accident, the following procedure should be followed:

1.    Verify police and ambulances have been dispatched.

2.    Do not disturb the scene, other than to remove the victim(s) if necessary due to an imminent danger and/or administer first-aid. Take all pertinent information and photographs if deemed necessary by the Officer in charge.

3.    If required, secure or cordon off the area.

4.    Contact Dispatch and have them contact the NS Department of Labour and Workforce Occupational Health & Safety Division.


OPERATING GUIDELINE REVIEW:

This operating guideline shall be reviewed when/if there are changes/amendments to the procedure following during industrial accidents.
