PURPOSE: 

To establish a guideline to follow when responding to calls at (CFAD) Canadian Forces 
Ammunition Depot, Bedford.

OBJECTIVE:

All career and volunteer firefighters will follow the appropriate guidelines when responding to calls at the CFAD. 

SCOPE:

This operating guideline applies to career and volunteer firefighters with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency.

PROCEDURE: 

•    All units will respond Code 1/Code 3 to the main gate (staging area). This area is located outside of the main gate at the end of Anderson Lake Road.

•    Once units have arrived at the staging area, the Incident Commander will report to the (CFAD) Fire Hall which is staffed 24/7. The Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) Incident Commander will liaise with senior DND Fire Officials on what assistance HRFE can provide.

•    All buildings that carry ammunition are clearly placarded with a Division Number of 1, 2, 3 or 4.


•    HRFE crews will not engage either offensively or defensively to any structure placarded with division numbers #1, #2, or #3.

•    Buildings placarded with #4 can be fought from a minimum distance of 25 metres. 

•    In all cases, DND Fire Officials will take the lead role in firefighting.

OPERATING GUIDELINE REVIEW:

This operating guideline shall be reviewed when/if there are changes/amendments to the guidelines for responding to calls from the Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot.
