PURPOSE:  To ensure proper care and use of Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)

PROCEDURES:

•    Only personnel who have received proper training shall use a PAPR.

•    Personnel who have not been fit tested with the appropriate facepiece in accordance with all applicable policies and regulations shall not be permitted to use a PAPR.

•    PAPR shall only be used with canisters that are referenced in the training material or as approved by the Safety Division.

•    PAPR shall only be used in non-IDLH conditions.

•    Do not use powered air-purifying respirator if the device is indicating an error code.

•    Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and refer to the user instructions as required.

•    Preparation for use, donning, cleaning, inspecting, storing, and troubleshooting shall be performed in accordance with the HRFE Job Aid.

RESPONSIBILITIES

All Personnel shall:

•    Ensure that PAPR and canisters are inspected, maintained and ready for use at all times.

•    Ensure the scene is confirmed non-IDLH prior to entry.

•    Ensure battery packs are charged and ready for use.

•    Report repairs and service issues to the Division Captain.
