PURPOSE: 

To ensure portable extinguishers carried on the Department’s apparatus are fully charged and ready for use at all times.

OBJECTIVE:

Portable fire extinguishers will at all times be fully charged and ready for use. 

SCOPE:

This operational guideline applies to career and volunteer firefighters with Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency.

PROCEDURE:

If an extinguisher is used by a member, no matter how much of the extinguishing agent is used, it is to be taken out of service, replaced immediately, tagged and sent for service.

OPERATING GUIDELINE REVIEW:

This operating guideline shall be reviewed when/if there are changes/amendments to the usage and service of portable fire extinguishers on fire apparatus.
